NEW ZEALAND RED CROSS NATIONAL ART COMPETITION ON FAMILY SEPARATION
PRIMARY AND INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS
Eligibility: Any year one to year eight student enrolled in a New Zealand school.
Topic: Communication with family overseas.
Each year many people move from overseas to make New Zealand their new home. Some people choose to leave their country, but some are forced to leave because where they live is no longer safe. There are also many people who decide to leave New Zealand and make their home in another country. When people move countries, families can end up separated.
Artwork: Create an A4 size picture that shows the ways in which you keep in contact with your family members who live in another country (or another New Zealand city if you have no family overseas). Include a statement to describe your picture (up to 50 words). All entries must be accompanied by the attached Entry Form.
The winning entries will have visual impact, be creative, and show awareness of the competition topic.
Opening date: Entries will be accepted from 9.00am Friday 15 May 2015, to coincide with the International Day of the Family.
Closing date: 5.00pm Wednesday 15 July 2015.
Winning entries: Three winning pieces of art will be selected for publication. Additionally, there is a prize for the school with the highest number of entries.1 Winning entries will be notified no later than 3.30pm Friday 31 July 2015.
· The winning school will be determined by the highest number of entries per head of enrolled students.
· Postal address: New Zealand Red Cross House, 69 Molesworth Street, PO Box 12-140, Thorndon,
· Wellington: 6144, New Zealand; Attention: Restoring Family Links Co-ordinator.
Contact information: The original artworks are to be sent by post to New Zealand Red Cross National Office,2 together with the completed entry form. Schools may send the works on behalf of the students or the students may send them directly. For further information on the competition, see www.redcross.org.nz, or email [email protected].
Prizes: Three selected pieces of art will be chosen for publication as postcards and available for public use at the upcoming New Zealand Red Cross Missing Lives photo exhibition, 30 August – 12 September 2015, in Wellington.
Each of the three winning students will also receive a $50 ‘Prezzy Card’.
The school with the highest number of entries will win a package of Red Cross books/materials for their school library.
